Pericope: Matthew 21:12–17 ESV - Matthew 21:12-1712 And
Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought
in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-
changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to
them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’
but you make it a den of robbers.” 14 And the blind and the lame
came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the
chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did,
and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of
David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you
hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have
you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies
you have prepared praise’?” 17 And leaving them, he went out of
the city to Bethany and lodged there.
Sermon Text: Matthew 21:13 ….my house
Sermon Title: My House
Isaiah 56:7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and make them
joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and sacrifices,
will be accepted on my altar for my house, shall be called a house
of prayer for all people.
Point 1: Jesus makes a way out of no way - Verse 14 And the
blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed
them.
Luke 14: 21(b)Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city
and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame. (22)
…what you commanded we have done and still there is room,
(23) “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and
country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will
be full.
John 12:2, 9 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha
served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with
him. 9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus
was there and came, not only because of him but also to see
Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
Matthew 25:41–46 - Matthew 25:41-46 41 “Then he will say to
those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the
eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was
hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you
gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not
invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was
sick and in prison and you did not look after me.44 “They also will
answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger
or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’45
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of
the least of these, you did not do for me.’46 “Then they will go
away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Point 2: Jesus said they…Cry out verse 15…the children crying
out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were
indignant,
The children crying out in the temple hosanna to the son of David
Verse 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are
saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,
“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have
prepared praise’?”
Point 3: Get Out vs. 15 they were indignant… Verse 12 And
Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought
in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-
changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. verse 13…
But you made it a den of robbers.
Read verse 12 again. And Jesus entered the temple and drove
out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the
tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold
pigeons.
Now what Jesus quoted was Jeremiah 7:11 -11 Has this house,
which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I
have been watching! declares the Lord.
verse 12 goes on to say “Go now to the place in Shiloh where I
first made a dwelling for my Name and see what I did to it
because of the wickedness of my people Israel.
