November 3rd You Favor Your Parents, But You Look Like Your Decisions!
You Favor Your Parents, But You Look Like Your Decisions!

Memory verse: Matthew 6: 31 Therefore do not be anxious,
saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What
shall we wear?” [Just be thankful!]
Sermon Title: You Favor Your Parents, But You Look Like
Your Decisions!
Pericope: Matthew 6: 24 – 4 “No one can serve two masters.
Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both
God and money. 25 “Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your
life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will
wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than
clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or
store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds
them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one
of you by worrying add a single hour to your life [a] ?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of
the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not
even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of
these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is
here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much
more clothe you—you of little faith?
Sermon Text: Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters.
Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
both God and money.”
Point 1: The Crisis of Choice Jesus says vs 24(a) “No one can
serve two masters.”
Point 2: The Cost of Compromise Jesus says, vs 24(b) “Either
you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to
the one and despise the other.”
Paul put it this way Romans 8: 29 For those God foreknew he
also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son…
Solomon put it this way Ecclesiastes 3: 11 God set Eternity in the
heart of Mankind…
Matthew 19: 21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell
your possessions and follow me…
Point 3: The Call to Commitment vs 24(c) love the one and hate
the other…
How do I commit:
a) Don’t make the difficult decision to commit based on the
difficulty factor.
b) Pinpoint the choices that present themselves as easy
without cost on the surface…
c) Do a cost analysis of the compromise
Life Application:
1. Examine your daily choices and ask, “Who am I serving in
this moment?”
2. Identify an area in your life where Mammon might have a
foothold and surrender it to God.
3. Begin each morning with a commitment: “Today, I serve God
alone.”
