There’s a way forward for you and your family.
Point 1: Grace – 2 Cor. 12: 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. When
I think of grace for families I think of forgiveness.
(a) Have you forgiven family members that have hurt you?
(b) Are there family members who haven’t forgiven you?
(c) How do you know when forgiveness has taken place?
Say the forgiveness prayer…Dear Lord I have forgiven ______ according to your word. The pain I feel is a reminder I
have been forgiven and cannot hold this against them anymore. Just as God has forgiven me, I have forgiven them. I
separate the pain from forgiveness and ask you to help with the trauma and pain and stop attributing it to my family
member who hurt me. In Jesus name!
Point 2: Intentionality – Eph. 5:15-17 NLT - 15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are
wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord
wants you to do
(a) How much time to do spend on your phone/work/TV/etc. per week
(b) How much time do you spend with a family members per week?
(c) When are you most excited; person place or thing?
Point 3: Intimacy 1 John 4: 19…we say we love because he first loved us
(a) How often do you tell your family members you love them?
(b) What is your family’s love language? Time? Gifts? Worship? Etc.
Point 4: Empowerment – 1 John 4: 4 Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world
(a) What words of life do you speak into your family?
(b) What plans does your family have for success: 3 year, 5 year, etc.?
Point 5: Life Lessons – Prov. 24: 16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble
when calamity strikes.
(a) How often do you review the successes and failures of your family?
(b) What is the number one lesson your family has learned from your successes and your failures?
Point 6: Purpose – Deut 6:6-9 - 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them
on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when
you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of
your houses and on your gates.
Point 7: Power – Ex. 3: 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the
God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
