Pericope: Acts 13:1-3 ESV - Now there were in the church at
Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was
called Niger,[a] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of
Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the
Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas
and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after
fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them
off.

Introduction: Matt 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and said to
them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” and
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has
come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in
all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
It is the preamble, if you will that sets the stage for 3 missionary
journeys:
