Key Scriptures: Matthew 21:43, Ephesians 2
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
There are 3 critical things to pull out of this statement.
1 - The Stone - Jesus is stable and secure
● What makes him stable and secure?
○ He’s God
○ Connection to His Father
○ His obedience to God’s will
○ He is perfect
2 - The builders rejected - the implication here is that he can be rejected or accepted
○ Reasons stones would be rejected
■ Physical Imperfection
● Cracks, irregular size, softness
■ Incompatibility for the purpose
● Unsuitable size
● Unsuitable strength
■ Lack of Aesthetic
● Unattractive for the specific part of the building needed
● Rough surfaces
■ Difficulty in Working with the stone
● Hard to fit the stone into the shape you want it to fit in.
3 - Has become the cornerstone - Jesus is the foundation | we are his building
● When the cornerstone is set in the right place at the right time, everything comes into
alignment.
● Ephesians 2:20
Jesus is ________________________________________
Life application:
1. Take your stones, and put them in a prominent place. Attached your family scripture to
that stone. Joshua 24:15b, Psalm 121, Ephesians 4:29, Matthew 6:6, Psalm 91
2. There are some stones in your family and in your life that need to be rejected. What are
they? Business, unforgiveness, complacency, disrespect, apathy?
3. Commit to a rhythm in your family that will fortify your foundation with the cornerstone of
Christ. Devotion, morning/evening prayer, LGs, scripture before dinner, faith based
content on devices, accountability partner.
